21st century library for Willesden

21st century library for Willesden

A new library, which forms part of a community centre that features an exhibition space, museum, archives and performance space, officially opens this month.

With 40,000 books, 140 study spaces, 81 PCs and 14 iPads for public use, the new Library at Willesden Green replaces the 1980s-built library building that was inefficient and expensive to run, but still retains an element of the original building to the front, blending the old with the new. A café is also expected to open in the new building soon.

Brent Council worked with architects AHMM, developers Linden Homes and main contractor Galliford Try to create the new multi-purpose venue for the local community, which has been delivered at no expense to the taxpayer.

The new building is fully accessible for disabled people and it has also scored an ‘excellent’ rating for sustainability under the BREEAM system.
