New public space for Manchester city centre

New public space for Manchester city centre

A public consultation exhibition is underway in Manchester showing how a mixed-use scheme aims to breathe new life into an under-utilised area of the city.

The 700,000sq ft St. Michael’s development is centrally located and surrounded by a number of key regeneration areas such as the Civic Quarter, Spinningfields and St.Johns, as well as the redevelopment activity that is emerging around Brazennose Street.

A Strategic Regeneration Framework (SRF) was developed by Manchester City Council to identify key outcomes, which the site needed to deliver in order to meet the city’s growth, economic, social and environmental objectives.

The St Michael’s partnership appointed Make Architects to design the scheme, which has responded to the SRF through the provision of a 200-bed, five-star hotel; 30,000sq ft of retail and leisure space including two new sky bars/restaurants; and apartments and office space. St. Michael’s will also feature three new public spaces, designed by Landscape Architects Planit-IE.
