£300m multi use scheme for Leeds’ cultural quarter

£300m multi use scheme for Leeds’ cultural quarter

Caddick Developments, the company behind the £400m Trinity Leeds shopping centre, is to invest more than £300m to regenerate the centre of Leeds.

The six-acre Quarry Hill site will be turned into a new cultural heart centred around the West Yorkshire Playhouse, BBC, Leeds College of Music and Leeds City College. Named SOYO (SOuth Of YOrk Road), the scheme aims to bring a sense of New York’s East Village and San Francisco’s SoMa districts to Yorkshire.

SOYO will include new homes, restaurants, bars, commercial space for start-ups as well as a hotel and new public space, which the developer hopes can be used for outdoor theatre and music events, attracting local bands and artists.
