Go-ahead for Altrincham regeneration

Go-ahead for Altrincham regeneration

Trafford Council have approved plans for a £70m mixed use leisure development scheme in Altrincham, Cheshire.

The Altair project includes a new leisure centre; a range of leisure-based retail outlets, restaurants, coffee shops and cafes; a tenpin bowling alley; 150 new apartments and townhouses, as well as office space and a car park. It will complement the £19m transport interchange scheme already underway in the historic market town.

Situated on a 4.5 acre brownfield site located between Tesco and Altrincham Leisure Centre, the scheme from developer Nikal aims to regenerate the town drawing trade and people back to the area.

“We’ve designed Altair so it will provide much needed linkages between the different areas of Altrincham, helping to enhance trade and dwell time for residents and visitors. The new office space will attract further investment from businesses currently situated outside the town and borough and the apartments and townhouses will create new housing opportunities not seen in the area,” says Nick Payne, managing director of Nikal.
