Green light for £13.5m leisure centre

Green light for £13.5m leisure centre

Plans for a £13.5m leisure centre in Heston, Hounslow, have been approved.

The facility will be built on the site of Heston Pool and will include a 25m main pool, a learner pool, health suites, a 100 station gym, two dance studios, a café and soft play facilities.

Heston Pool, which has been in a poor condition for a number of years, will be demolished to make way for the new development. Built in the 1930s, the centre is unable to compete with modern centres and is no longer cost-effective to run.

In addition to the new leisure centre, plans include improvements to, and better links with, Heston Park and a revamp of outdoor play areas. New third generation outdoor floodlit sports pitches will be installed and the scheme will also include external landscaping and new car parking facilities.

The scheme is being funded through the sale of nearby land for residential development.

Enabling work began on site in January, with the main works, including the demolition of Heston Pool beginning by the end of February. The new centre is expected to open in November 2015.
