Go-ahead for £50m Southampton scheme

Go-ahead for £50m Southampton scheme

A £50m waterfront scheme that includes a yacht shaped hotel and spa has been given the green light at Ocean Village in Southampton.

Southampton City Council planners approved MDL Marinas hotel with its proposed Michelin starred restaurant. Phase two of the scheme will include three apartment buildings up to 10 storeys providing 82 flats and a mix of restaurants, shops and offices.

The hotel, designed by Scott Brownrigg, will be the first five star hotel for the city. Surrounded by water, it will incorporate 76 bedrooms, a champagne roof terrace, waterside restaurant and a luxury 1,000sq m spa with gym, indoor swimming pool and treatment rooms, along with 12 two-bed duplex dual aspect apartments with terraces and balconies.

The development will start on site in autumn 2012, with the hotel due to open in spring 2014.
