‘Fans first’ design for new Perth stadium

‘Fans first’ design for new Perth stadium

Construction of a new stadium is due to get underway in Burswood, West Australia this year.

Westadium, a consortium led by Brookfield Multiplex (design and construction), John Laing (equity investor and asset management) and Brookfield Johnson Controls (facilities management), will design, build, partially finance and maintain the multipurpose stadium and surrounding Sports Precinct.

With 60,000 seats, the stadium will host the 2018 Australian Rules Football League, as well as rugby, cricket and soccer and entertainment events.

The five-tiered stadium will feature a bronze facade and the latest LED lighting to show the home team colours by night. More than 85 per cent of seating will be covered and other facilities include generous seat sizes, more than 70 food and beverage outlets, two 240sq m video screens - some of the biggest in the country - and a further 1,000 screens throughout the stadium.

The design of the sporting and recreation precinct surrounding the stadium will have three distinct recreational spaces including children’s playgrounds, picnic areas and a boardwalk, for year-round community use.

The state government will retain ownership of the stadium, which is due to open in 2018.
