City University launches CitySport

City University launches CitySport

Olympic cyclist Dani King has officially opened CitySport, one of the largest student sports facilities in central London.

Designed by tp Bennett, the sports facility for City University London, is part of a wider mixed-used regeneration scheme for the university. Measuring 3,289sq m (35,402sq ft), CitySport is 80 per cent larger than Saddlers Sports Centre, which it replaces.

The facility, which is open to students as well as students, staff, local businesses and residents, includes a six-court, multi-purpose sports hall that is able to stage county standard badminton, basketball, indoor football, hockey, volleyball and netball, with seating for up to 400 spectators.

It also features a two-storey gym equipped by Matrix, an indoor cycling studio and additional versatile spaces to host a range of classes.

“CitySport has been designed to provide a local hub for sporting activities, with its large hall for team games, studios for wellbeing classes and a gym fitted with the latest fitness equipment. These fantastic facilities maximise the available space by combining great design with leading edge technology, making it one of the best university sports centres in the country,” says Bill Thompson, head of Sport and Leisure at City University.
