Gradus is guiding light for the Met Theatre

Gradus is guiding light for the Met Theatre

Gradus has supplied LED Lighting to The Met theatre in Bury as part of a multi-million pound renovation project.

An independent arts and entertainment venue, The Met presents a mixture of theatre, music and comedy.

Since closing in March 2016, the Grade II listed building has undergone a significant refurbishment to create a new and improved performance space and facilities. This includes a transformed theatre area to add capacity and improve aesthetics, more spacious and inviting foyers and bars, enhanced backstage facilities and a new lift to improve accessibility.

As part of the renovation, Gradus’ ATD71L stair edgings incorporating blue LED Interlok Advance lighting were installed in the main theatre. This creates a pinpoint lighting effect across each step, helping to enhance the safety of the building by providing a clear edge when ascending and descending the staircase in darkened conditions.

Fran Healy, Project Manager for The Met refurbishment, commented: “The LED lighting system has helped to create a safe and inclusive environment for all building users. Gradus were able to offer a full project management service based on our specification needs and we’re very pleased with the end result.”

The ATD71L illuminated stair edging comprises a hardwearing, aluminium channel with a 6mm gauge, and incorporates two PVC-u tubes that house the LED lighting and clip securely into the channel.

Lynette Bowden, Group Product Manager at Gradus, said: “Step edge lighting is a very important feature for any theatre space. Low light levels, coupled with busy footfall, means there is an increased risk of slip and trip accidents on staircases. As a result, our LED lighting has helped provide The Met theatre with a solution that not only enhances the buildings safety, but is also in keeping with the theatres new, contemporary aesthetic.

“We have over 25 years experience in the design and manufacture of illuminated decorative and safety flooring accessories, and can offer a range of extra low voltage decorative LED products for use in a variety of leisure environments.”

Gradus provide product and installation solutions that are easy and safe to install. Bespoke products and adaptations of existing products can be produced to create specific light effects for customised applications. For further information, please click below.
