Creating leisure experiences from retail spaces

The retail sector is changing and only the versatile and strong will survive... There is still scope for shopping centres within our society however they need to adapt their strategies. For many families going shopping for shops sake is not enough. We can all now do that from the comfort of our own homes - which if you have kids and busy lives is far easier!

Retail environments now need to create more experiences for shoppers so it is a day out that families can enjoy rather than dread. One way to increase visitor numbers is to add some form of play equipment either indoors or just outside the centre. This will allow children a place to play while mum and dad go shopping but it also creates a central area where families can congregate and have a break.

This increases their dwell time in the centre and likelihood to spend more money in nearby cafes and shops. If children are happy and satisfied it makes the overall experience a lot more pleasurable.
