Works to start on environmentally-friendly community depot

Work to build an environmentally-friendly depot in Alexandra Park, Oldham will start this autumn paving the way for a modern building with community facilities and opportunities.

Oldham Council’s cabinet has appointed contractor Whitfield and Brown Developments to start initial works on the new building.

Replacing Alexandra Park’s existing ageing depot, it will provide a new home for the environmental services teams as well as space for community events, education and recreation.

The new depot will be powered by an air source heat pump to provide sustainable heat and hot water and is the first phase of a wider vision to create a sustainable hub at Alexandra Park including greenhouses and buildings powered by green energy. The building is an anchor development to Northern Roots – the UK’s largest urban farm which is being created on 160 acres of adjacent land at Snipe Clough
